Enjoy the little things

You know, the other day, the steam from the shower remind me of my childhood, and just for a second I was there, at home 20 years younger.

It was just a second, but it was amazing.

2013 there we go!

2012 was really hard, so I´m really glad it´s finally over!

And I love the feeling of a New year, with every minute ready to be good memory!

So, yes, 2012 was hard, but it also had good things:

-Spent 3 months in London and got to work with some of the best Haematology Doctors there. And met lots of new people, including Maria. And, I love that city!

-Finished my Haematology Residency Trainning.

-Move to a new flat with one of my best friends

-Discovered I have some really good friends

-Started working on my PhD

-Went to the EBMT Meeting

-Cooked and baked a lot

-Hosted losts of  Dinner parties

-Started painting again

-Learnt how to make my own DIY pinhole camera and to take pictures with it

-Started crocheting again

-Read some really good books

And, now, let´s be positive, 2013 will be a great year!

Lost and found

Today I went to Madrid Lost and Found office (in Legazpi) to pick up Isa´s wallet (stolen from her hangbag a few weeks ago...).

Once there, while the officer went to look for the wallet, I just stared at one woman that worked there and had a big box full of wallets, and she had to classify and put all the information about the lost objects in the computer (I think it could be the most boring job on Earth).

But this place reminded me of Cecilia Ahern´s book "A place called here", where all the lost things and people lived, once they had got lost. And they had to pick up clothes and things from this warehouse, and put up with the fact of never get 2 similar socks.

Free morning

I was in call yesterday, and now I´m coming back home. I´m so tired!, all I want it´s to run in to my bed as soon as possible. 

But sometimes, when you feel this tired, you can appreciate the little details of the daily routine. Like walking out of the Metro Station and smelling the anis from the donuts someone it´s selling outside. Looking at the photo booth machine and expect to see someone collecting the pictures that people have left behind like in Amelie. Or enjoy just the sunlight on your face...

Look what I´ve found!

I found this book vending machine in Parla train station the other day. I´ve never seen one in my life. Good idea dor people that have to commute everyday.

I went to see Cecil Beaton´s exhibition celebrating the Queen´s Diamond Jubilee. Beatiful portraits of the Queen and her family. I liked that vintage atmosphere, the dresses where fabulous, the flowers in the pictures set by Mr. Beaton himself, and the light is so dramatic in some pictures.
You can see the Coronation Ceremony photographs also.
My favorites, the one when the Queen is 16 years old, with her mother and sister, specially one in wich they appear with normal dresses, right after the War finished.

Victoria and Albert Museum


I think this is my favorite museum here in London. A lot of sculptures, some by Rodin. A beatiful garden. Fantastics galleries of Indian and Oriental Arts and ceramics. A whole room full of tapestries from the 1500. A lot of silverware (I love the Art Deco silverware). It´s great!
And I love the people that visit this museum, I don´t know, it´s special and peculiar. Really stylish people wondering through the rooms, some of them painting, it´s like they´re part of this magical place.

The museum shops has great things.

We´re off to see the Wizard, the wonderful Wizard of Oz

I had bever been to a musical. And I never thought I would like it.
But, apart from the fact I love this story, the actors, the music and the staging were fantastic!

I´ve already decided, every morning from now on, I´ll get up with its music!

DAY 69: All about Eve

Today, after work, I went to see "All about Eve" exhibition (Art Sensus Galley, 7 Howick Place).

A photography exhibition of Eve Arnold´s work.

She is such an inspiration for photographers. She started her career as a photographer when she was almost 40, and she took some of the most beatiful pictures ever.
She captured the essence and the feelings of the people she portrayed.

The exhibition shows you pictures of celebrities, from the time she documented the making of the films. Nice pictures of Marilyn Monroe, Peter O´toole, Marlene Dietrich, Angelica Houston and many more.

She also travelled a lot, and have some great pictures from Rusia, China, Mongolia, etc.

The series of veiled woman is amazing, because, even when you can´t see their faces, she managed to  capture their eyes, their attitude...
One of my favorite pictures is a photograph of a veiled woman in a market, her hands tell her story, I stood there staring at it for almost 15 minutes.

But the most important, she was a curious person.

The other day I found this sign on the bus:

I think it´s great to have a campaign to advertise the fact of being a better person. But I found very peculiar the line: "I won´t eat smelly food".
Don´t you think?

I think it´s related to the spicy food that many people has here. Because in London you can have Asian food from wherever you feel like eating.
Some Indian colegues take spicy food for lunch but I think it smells delicious.

DAY 65: Lets go for a walk in the garden of Eden...

Today I went to Kew Gardens.

I love it!

What else can I say?

It was a sunny day, trees were starting to bloom, lovely!

I visited the victorian glass greenhouses. In the Palm Tree house, I melted a little, but it´s realy impressive to see palm trees really old, and one them it´s blooming, and then, it will be dead when it finishes, but it was there for years and years. The green houses are so beatiful, and the sunlight came in so smoothly.

I also liked the Princess of Wales greenhouse, where you can passed from one climate to another only with crossing a door (there´s 7 different environments), with a carnivore plants room and orchards room as well.

The water lillies House was closed until April, I really was sad to missed it!

The garden itself, whit its views where you can walk over the grass, the different trees and flowers (and a wonderful perfume), the Kew Palace and the Pagoda was so beatiful and relaxing.

The Treetop walk, I think it was impressive, but I suffered a lot walking it! I´m really afraid of heights, and it was a long half an hour to me (normal people can make in 15 minutes). But very nice views.

I love it. But apart from being a beatiful place, they make such a wonderful research and conservation work. 

And now, I want to visit in the summer!
